Intrauterine insemination (IUI) concentrates sperm in the uterus, bypassing the vagina and cervix. This maximizes the number of motile sperm that enter the Fallopian tubes to fertilize the egg.
Fresh semen, collected the day of the IUI can be used. In this case, the man's appointment at our center is 90 minutes before the woman's IUI appointment.
Frozen semen from the man can also be thawed in the laboratory and prepared for IUI. If frozen semen have been stored at another fertility center, the specimens can be shipped to our center and stored until the day of the IUI procedure.
After the semen sample is collected or thawed, the sperm are washed from the semen, and motile sperm are selected for IUI.
