ICSI involves the direct injection of a single sperm into a mature egg. This procedure is selectively used in cases involving oligospermia, involving low sperm counts, low sperm motility, or low percentage of normal sperm morphology. This procedure may also be used in cases where there is a history of previous failed fertilization despite normal semen analysis
ICSI is required for sperm obtained by sugical sperm collection, when there are few or or no sperm in semen, or with frozen sperm with low sperm motility after thawing.
