The average time for a doctor to see a new infertility patient is 30-60 minutes, depending on the complexity of the situation.
Patients will be asked questions about the length of time they have been trying to conceive, prior pregnancies or miscarriages, prior fertility treatments or testing, menstrual cycle regularity, flow, and associated menstrual symptoms.
Your doctor will also ask about general medical health with questions pertaining to weight, past medical problems, surgeries, medications, allergies, and use of tobacco or other substances.
At times, a treatment plan can be determined on the basis of history alone. Sometimes the physician will also perform a physical examination in the office which may include a pelvic examination.
